About Dr. Einarsson

Dr. Jón Ívar Einarsson is a board-certified gynecologist who is world renowned for his surgical skills, innovation, and academic activity. He was the Founder of the Division of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and is a retired Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is also the past President of the AAGL. Dr. Einarsson retired from Brigham in November of 2024 and continues to maintain an active surgical referral practice. He has published approximately 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts, abstracts, and book chapters.  He is also an innovator and holder of 23 medical device patent applications and granted patents. His referral practice is devoted to advanced laparoscopic surgery, including advanced laparoscopic procedures such as laparoscopic excision of sciatic nerve endometriosis and other severe endometriosis scenarios, the laparoscopic release of pudendal nerve entrapment and other neuropelveology procedures in addition to laparoscopic hysterectomy, laparoscopic myomectomy, laparoscopic repair of pelvic organ prolapse, laparoscopic niche repair and laparoscopic cerclage placement. He also runs a private practice in Iceland, which is the highest volume endometriosis center nationally.
